Shoe-leather reporting shed light on the CBS/60 Minutes controversy concerning George W. Bush's military record: Dan Rather’s producer failed to uphold basic journalistic standards, relying on questionable documents and witnesses, and failing to discover contradictory facts. This led to Rather’s downfall (the subject of the recent Robert Redford film Truth).
